Going Pro: Time to Professionalize your Sales? Transition Help for Startups | 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
As a start-up founder, you do everything: R&D, PR, marketing, accounting, sales. Don’t make the mistake most start-ups do when they grow: failing to effectively transition your responsibilities. The sales transition can be the trickiest and riskiest of all. It can also be your greatest opportunity for spectacular growth. Both technical and sales-oriented founders have blind spots when it comes to delegating sales, and many companies never manage to create an environment where true sales talents can thrive and drive company growth. Doug Bain will teach you how to overcome your blind spots, identify true sales talent, and how to keep an objective and effective eye on your company’s sales focus as you grow.

Monday's lineup is sponsored by Indeed. Swing by their new downtown sales office on Thursday during the ATX Startup Crawl.

Austin CIO Breakfast - Mobile Strategy: Beyond the Initial Marketing Apps | 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Austin CIO breakfast presentaion by Marcus Turner, the CTO of Atomic Axis - an Austin-based leader in digital strategy solutions for mobile and web.

The initial wave of “enterprise apps” were commonly driven by marketing teams from initiatives that were typically not connected to the prime value of the business. Today, we see more enterprise apps, based on extensive ROI studies and truly connected with some of the primary strategic initiatives of the business. In parallel, we see a lot of businesses not developing specific mobile strategies from “one and done app developers”, but rather incorporating mobile into comprehensive business and digital strategies. This transition is allowing businesses to reach greater levels of efficiency and truly driving the transformation of enterprise solutions. Mobile Strategy: Beyond the initial marketing apps will provide you with organizations and use cases of meaningful mobile initiatives that have the ability to truly transform critical business operations.

Outlaw UX: What Willie Nelson Can Teach You About User Experience | 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
He has been described as "a carved-in-granite, Samurai poet, warrior gypsy, guitar-pickin’ wild man with a heart as big as Texas and the greatest sense of humor in the West”. His statue in downtown Austin is actually made out of bronze but the rest is pretty accurate.

Willie Nelson will tell you, “I’m just an old cowboy poet, a song singer on the road of life”. At age 81, he's spent almost his entire life writing songs, telling stories, connecting with and delighting audiences around the world.

We can all learn a lot from Willie, especially those of us working in user experience. In this session you'll learn to approach UX like this legendary recording artist, activist, author, and actor. Willie's wisdom includes: fitting in and standing out, connecting with your audience (or users), getting past creative blocks, persevering in difficult business arrangements, finding your tribe, overcoming financial setbacks, and most importantly doing work you love -- at every stage in life.

Feminist Hack ATX Open Coffee | 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM
We'll have coffee and networking for tech and startup professionals of all genders who identify as feminists or allies.  Let's meet each other, learn, strategize, brainstorm, and problem-solve!  The goal of the group is to create and support a climate in the Austin startup and tech scene that is friendly to women and promotes gender equality and feminist values.

Who should attend?
Anyone who's interested in feminism or supporting women in the Austin tech and startup scene.

I'm not sure if I should attend, what should I do?
You should come!  If you're interested in the group, that's all that's required.  (We won't make you show us your feminist card.)  If you still have questions or concerns, please reach out to Gina, the organizer.

Can we talk about whether feminism is valuable or needed?
We can definitely talk about that but not at this particular event.  We'll expect that if you attend, you already believe or are willing to entertain the idea that feminism is valuable and benefits people of all genders.

Is this group primarily about white feminism?
I really hope not!  The organizer is a white feminist but the goal of the group is to be attentive to all feminist issues, including especially for women of color.

I'm worried this will be real heavy/intimidating.
Don't be nervous, this is a friendly gathering! We're going to drink some coffee, meet some cool people, and get to know each other.  It'll be a super chill and fun time, so come on out!

I’ve Got 99 Problems But a Pitch Ain’t One: What Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Rap Music | 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
It is an exciting time for both rap and startups. Both of these cultural forces have boomed in popularity over the last two decades: demand for rap music and entrepreneurship are at all-time highs. The change in tide for both indicates a change in attitude of the new millennia. The current generation of young people that are driving our culture and shaping our economic future resonate with the values inherent in both rap and startups: innovation, a healthy sense of risk, and the power of community.

Rap music is one of the few genres that embraces business principles. When was the last time you heard an opera singer, jazz guitarist, or dubstep producer talk about the business of what they do in their art? Rappers, however, talk about this topic all the time.

Find out what you can learn from rap music from Cam Houser, CEO of 3DayStartup

The One-Page Brand: A Strategy for Startups | 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Branding is hard for startups. News flash: It’s hard for everyone.

So we built a tool to make it easier. A clear-cut path for startups toward a rock-solid foundation for their brand. It’s the Brand Strategy Canvas—a single-page, step-by-step formula that serves as a starting point for a stronger brand.

Who are we? Advertising-slash-startup vets at one of the largest independent agencies around. We’ve spun years of experience into the Canvas, turning brand strategy into a process, not a philosophy.
You’ll get a full walkthrough of the Canvas with examples and discussion around each step (plus your own copy of it).

The Brand Strategy Canvas helps startups create their own positioning statement, brand essence, and key messaging that’s all rooted in truth. So you leave with a deeper understanding of branding—and a deeper understanding of your brand.

The Capital Conundrum-Capital Access Issues, Equity Preservation and Funding Strategy Design for Early Stage Ventures | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Starting a company is easy and relatively cheap BUT building a company takes a lot of cash, and your funding strategy can make or break your company. Before you raise a dime you must know not only your business canvas and model cold, but also what key milestones and funding inflections are likely so that you can prepare for multiple outcomes along the way and understand the intended and unintended consequences of each round of capital and source.  In this session, entrepreneurs Chris J Snook (LaunchHaus, Ft. Collins Startup Week) and Krista Morgan (P2Binvestor) will talk about funding strategy and share tips and lessons learned for making the right choices along the road to funding and financing your company’s growth. Snook and Morgan will talk about diverse dilutive and non-dilutive capital sources and other places to find the cash you need to grow.

This session will be candid, interactive, and informal. You’ll walk away with the real story behind how things work in the realm of all things funding.
